World Space Week (World Space Week – WSW) is celebrated from 4 to 10 October. This international anniversary celebrates space exploration and the contribution made by space technologies and discoveries to our daily lives. World Space Week was called by the United Nations General Assembly in 1999, and the dates chosen commemorate two historical events: the launch of Sputnik 1, the first artificial satellite (4 October 1957) and the signing of the Outer Space Treaty (10 October 1967), an agreement between states on Earth regulating the exploration and use of space, including the Moon. Events such as school activities, exhibitions and conferences are organised all over the world during WSW.
