COOKIE POLICY

Extended cookie policy at www.eniscuola.eni.com

When users visit eniscuola.eni.com ("Site") or use the online services, tools or systems provided by it ("Services"), Eni S.p.A. (the "Company") and vendors authorised by the same may use cookies, web beacons and other similar technologies to ensure the operation of the Site and Services, to enable them to improve their performance, to offer additional features as well as to target advertisements that are targeted or in line with user interests, subject to the conditions set forth in the relevant legislation.

This Cookie Policy is intended to provide users with a guide to understanding what cookies are, including web beacons and similar technologies, how and why they are used, what rights users have, and what choices users can make with respect to the use of cookies.

1. What are cookies, web beacons, and similar technologies?

Cookies: small strings of text (usually formed by letters and numbers) that websites (so-called "first party") visited by the user or different websites or web servers (so-called "third parties") place and store within an end device ("Device") used by the user while browsing (e.g., PC, tablet, smartphone or any other device capable of storing information).

Web beacons: small images, also known as "pixel tags" or "transparent GIFs", that can be included in sites, services, apps, messages, and tools. Generally, they work like cookies to identify users and their activities.

Similar technologies: technologies that store data in the browser or Device using locally shared objects or local storage, such as flash cookies, HTML 5 cookies, and other web application software methods. These technologies work in all browsers. In some cases, the use of local storage cannot be fully managed by browsers, but requires management through specific tools. The Company also uses such technologies to store information useful for creating targeted advertisements on its own or other sites.

The terms "cookies" and "similar technologies" will be used indiscriminately in this Cookie Policy to refer to all technologies used to store data in the user's browser or Device or technologies that collect data or identify the user while browsing.

2. What are the different categories of cookies?

Distinct cookies based on duration
Cookies can remain on the Device for the duration of a session (i.e., until the browser used to browse the Site is closed or a Service use is stopped) and are called session cookies; or they can remain for long periods and may contain a unique identifier code and are called persistent cookies.

Distinct cookies based on the subject owner of the cookie
Cookies may be owned by the operator of the Site and Service (the Company) and, therefore, installed by the latter in the user's Device. In these cases, these are so-called first-party cookies; or a site may contain cookies from other sites, owned by third parties, such as vendors, and contained in various elements hosted on the Site itself (e.g., banner ads, images, videos, etc.). In these cases, these are so-called third-party cookies.

Distinct cookies based on purpose
Cookies can be installed in the user's Device to:

  • ensure the operation of the Site and Services, as well as to ensure that the user can take advantage of their functionality, so-called technical cookies;
  • to allow to improve the performance of the Site and our Services as well as to evaluate the effectiveness of a service offered through the Site, so-called analytical cookies;
  • to enable the Company or our partners to target advertisements that are targeted or in line with user interests, subject to consent, so-called profiling cookies.

3. What types of cookies are used and for what purposes?

Technical cookies for the proper functioning of the Site and Services
The Company uses technical cookies to enable users to move around the Site, use the Services, and to take advantage of various features (such as accessing restricted areas of the Site and Services, remembering user choices, etc.). Without these cookies, the requested Services, such as using the media player, cannot be provided. For this reason, technical cookies do not require users' consent to be installed on Devices.

First-party analytical cookies for performance analysis and improving the Site and Services
Subject to user consent, in order to analyse performance and to improve the performance of the Site and Services, the Company uses its own, i.e., first-party, analytical cookies. These cookies collect information about how users browse the Site and use the Services (e.g., pages visited, interrupting the online contracting process), and allow us to recognise users and record their behaviour by identifying, for example, which aspects of the Site and Services are of most interest or whether the user can easily find the desired information.

In addition, the Company may use so-called tracking scripts with similar functionality to analytical cookies in order to conduct random analyses of user behaviour on the Site (e.g., mouse movement and positioning on the Site and its content). The information collected is only for the purpose of aggregate analysis not based on users' personal data (e.g., IP, MAC address etc.).

Third-party analytical cookies for analysis and improvement of the Site and Services via third parties
The Company also uses analytical cookies from third parties (i.e., vendors) to process analyses of how users browse the Site, the number of pages visited, or the number of clicks on a page while browsing a site. These analyses are based solely on aggregate information and do not concern any individually considered user. The Company and the Company's partners use this type of cookie in order to pursue each of the purposes described in the cookie centre (for example, evaluating the performance of ads, content, selecting personalised content, or even developing and refining products). The Company has conducted appropriate assessments regarding the non-prevalence of users' interests and rights compared to the Company's interest in pursuing said purposes, available upon request. Regardless, each user may object to the Company's use of this type of cookie directly from the cookie centre or in the other ways explained in the specific section of this Policy.

Third-party profiling cookies
The Company uses vendors for the purpose of displaying, on third-party sites, advertising communications pertaining to the Site and Services and to enable those vendors to display advertising content related to the preferences of the user who has visited the Site or used a Service. To enable this activity, third-party profiling cookies are installed with the express consent of the user through the cookie centre.
For example, these cookies are used by vendors to show users, when they visit other sites, banners advertising products or services of the Company and interesting to them or similar to those displayed, including based on browsing history.

Detailed information about cookies
To access detailed information about each cookie used by the Site (e.g., details of third parties, retention of information acquired), to manage consent related to each type of cookie (in particular, provide or revoke it), and/or to object to the use of cookies on the basis of the Company's legitimate interest, the user can access the cookie centre at any time.
To better understand the descriptions therein:

  • "advertising partners" (or vendors) means third-party advertisers with whom the publisher has chosen to collaborate. Vendors display third-party content on the Site. For example, these set marketing cookies on users' browsers in order to display ads that are most relevant to potential customers;
  • publishers (or publishers) means digital media that publish content on the Internet (e.g., the Company). In general, publishers are first party: the website the user is trying to access, i.e., [...].
