Natural gas is mainly used as a fuel for heating, food preparation or to produce electricity. In gas-fired power plants, this fuel is consumed directly in internal combustion turbines. Often the heat used to generate electricity is also used to heat the power station or neighbouring buildings. Natural gas is also used as a fuel in the automotive sector: LPG, a suitable fuel that is cheaper and pollutes less than petrol, is used for such purposes.
